Enteric infection of swine with Clostridium perfringens types A and C

چکیده
We were recently asked to examine a large group of isolates of C. perfringens obtained from piglets with classical hemorrhagic, necrotic enteritis to confirm that they were type C. In fact, 95% were type A, and considering that true type-C cases yield pure cultures of type C, it seems unlikely that these were “normal flora” type-A strains picked inadvertently from a background of disease-causing type-C strains. Elucidation of the role of type-A strains will require amassing epidemiologic and microbiologic data, as well as genotyping and phenotyping the isolates. For the present, the differential diagnosis for swine enteric disease should include both type A and type C. Summary

Occurrence of Beta2 toxigenic Clostridium perfringens isolates with different toxin types in Iran
Clostridium perfringens is an important cause of enteric diseases in both human and animals. The bacteria produce several toxins which play key roles in the pathogenesis of diseases and are classified into five toxin types, on the basis of the differential production of Alpha, Beta, Epsilon and Iota toxins. In this study a single PCR assay was developed and used for detection of cpb2 gene to id...
متن کاملIdentification of enterototxin harboring gene among Clostridium perfringens isolates with different toxin types in Iran
Background: Clostridium perfringens is known as the most widely distributed pathogenic microorganism in nature. It is an extremely important pathogen of human and domestic animals. In a commonly used classification scheme, C. perfringens is divided into five toxinotypes (A to E) based on the production of four major toxins (alpha, beta, epsilon, and iota). Enterotoxin is not usually used for C....
متن کاملMolecular Evaluation of the Enterotoxigenicity of Clostridium difficile and Clostridium perfringens Swine Isolates by PCR Assays
Clostridium difficile and C. perfringens are enteric pathogens affecting a variety of mammals. This study evaluated the molecular enterotoxigenicity of Clostridium swine isolates by PCRs. One hundred and ten swine faeces were analyzed by culture assay. The faecal samples were from sixty-seven healthy animals and 43 with gastrointestinal tract disease. C. difficile strains were PCR-screened for ...
متن کاملGenomic diversity of Clostridium perfringens strains isolated from food and human sources
Clostridium perfringens is a serious pathogen which causes enteric diseases in domestic animals and food poisoning in humans. Spores can survive cooking processes and play an important role in the possible onset of disease. In this study, RAPD-PCR and REPPCR were used to examine the genetic diversity of 49 isolates of C. perfringens type A from three different sources. The results of RAPD-PCR r...
متن کاملGenotyping of Clostridium perfringens isolated from broiler meat in northeastern of Iran
Clostridium perfringens is an important cause of bacterial food poisoning worldwide. The disease is caused by C. perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) encoded by cpe gene. The aim of this research was to identify the different types of C. perfringens and the presence of cpe gene in isolated bacteria from broilers’ meat marketed in retail meat shops of Mashha...
